On June 24, the movie “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen” will make it debut in China. It is one of the most expected summer movies. Neocha + Video Sharing = Hotbed of Independent Music

Recently, I came across with a newly-established grassroot musical ensemble, called Mr. Before. I knew it since somebody recommended it on BBS. Same as other original and independent musicians/bands, Mr. Before popularize itself through Neocha, Tudou, Youku, etc.

Yesterday, Chinese young “creatives” (musicians, artists, writers, designers, etc) were under-represented by mainstream media and lack effective distribution platforms. Today, even there is no more Super Girl, they still can exposure themselves through social media and digital channels……

Yesterday, Youku showed some statistics for the concert. The results are pretty impressive……

Early April, a college graduate major in Film & Video made a video resume for himself and uploaded it to Youku. Till now, it has been going viral to other mainstream video sharing sites including Tudou, Ku6, 56, Pomoho, and Sina Video. This is a pretty impressive video……

XiDan Girl: Internet Succeed Subway Singer

XiDan Girl (西单女孩), probably is the first Net Star in 2009 in China. Three months before, she is an unknown subway singer in Beijing. Now, she is a well-known online grassroots celeb. On March 26, Youku held a launching ceremony for its Niu Ren (aka master hand) Campaign, a program to encourage netizen to discovery the most impressive folk grassroots experts in any field. During the ceremony, Youku organized a small concert for XiDan Girl. Different from previous net stars in Chinese Internet history (e.g. Fu Rong Jie Jie, Tian Xian Mei Mei, Ding Bei Li, Xiao Pang), XiDan Girl is not famous overnight due to hyping or spoofing, but to her great singing performance and netizens’ recognition……
